Are you passionate about helping people and making a positive difference to residents facing financial hardship?
We are looking for motivated and customer-focused Caseworkers to join Sunderland City Council's Financial Assessments and Benefits Service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in administering discretionary support schemes that provide vital assistance to some of the city's most vulnerable residents.
As a Caseworker, you will assess and process applications for Crisis and Resilience Fund - Housing Payments, Crisis Payments, Local Welfare Provision and other discretionary support schemes, ensuring decisions are made fairly, consistently and in line with legislation, guidance and local policy. You will manage your own caseload, provide advice and support to customers, maintain accurate records and work closely with a range of internal and external partners to help achieve the best outcomes for residents.
We are seeking someone who:
- Has experience of, or the ability to quickly develop knowledge of, Crisis and Resilience Fund Housing Payments, Crisis Payments, Local Welfare Provision and other related support schemes.
- Can deliver excellent customer service and communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
- Is able to make sound decisions using facts, evidence and policy guidance.
- Has strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
- Can work effectively as part of a busy team whilst also being confident working independently.
- Has experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Teams.
- Is committed to continuous improvement and delivering high quality services.
