We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Payroll team as a Payroll Assistant.  

In this role, you will assist with the maintenance of Nexus’ payroll records to ensure prompt and accurate payments are made to staff, pensioners and clients, accurately and on time. 

Working closely with team members and internal stakeholders, you will help to resolve queries, ensure supporting documentation is accurately maintained, and contribute to strong payroll controls and effective GDPR.  

As part of a collaborative payroll team, you will also support regular audit requirements, assist senior colleagues and play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the payroll function. 

Typical Day
 
  • To assist the payroll department to ensure that employees are paid on time and receive the correct payments, all payroll and pensions regulations are adhered to.  
  • Processing of sickness periods and fit notes, identifying and obtaining documents to cover missing periods.  
  • Processing of employee timesheet claim, ensuring compliance to the appropriate term and conditions of employment.  
  • To assist with the production of records and reports for internal and external bodies.  
  • To gain knowledge in all aspects of the payroll administration.  
  • Production of regular reports for internal and external customers.  
  • Working closely with the wider Payroll and Finance teams to help maintain strong payroll controls and efficient processes.  
  • Working closely with the Human Resources team to ensure we maintain effective communication and receive relevant employee information at the appropriate time.  

About You
 
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (grade C/4 or above) including English and Maths 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office with strong IT skills  
  • Accurate with good numeracy skills  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • A Logical and systematic approach to tasks  
  • Experience of working in a team; and being able to demonstrate working on own initiative and able to organise own workload 
  • Excellent data input accuracy 
  • Confidentially, diplomacy, tact and professionalism 
  • Ability to work to stringent deadlines

Our Team 

The Payroll Department is a small team of six employees responsible for processing three payrolls: a monthly staff payroll, a weekly staff payroll, and a small monthly pensioners' payroll. Together, the team processes payroll for more than 1,100 employees, with an annual pay bill exceeding £50 million. 

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues and managers at all levels across Nexus, as well as maintaining strong working relationships with the HR Department and the wider Finance Team.
