The Council has an ambition to develop Sunderland City Centre to be a healthy, dynamic and vibrant place and is looking for a well experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to be part of a new multidisciplined team to work specifically in the City Centre.

To apply for this role you will need to hold a degree in Environmental Health and a Certificate of Registration of the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or equivalent and have post-graduate broad experience ideally to involve food safety and district work. You will also need to have current practical knowledge, with at least 2 years regulatory and operational experience.

You should be self-motivated and confident with a sound knowledge of the full range of Environmental Health law to be proficient in supporting and improving the City’s businesses, properties and public spaces.

You will need to have good investigative, decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as being able to manage your time effectively and work well as part of a team.

The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to deal confidently and effectively with the public, businesses and members of other organisations. A strong work ethic, ability to deal with a varied caseload and a commitment to customer service are essential.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
