Further information

Gateshead Council's Economic and Housing Growth Service is responsible for leading the Council's efforts to create a strong, sustainable and inclusive economy. It works across the policy areas that drive growth - the business environment, labour market, housing market and physical infrastructure - with the aim of boosting prosperity and reducing economic inequality.

The Service works with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to generate and secure opportunities for the benefit of local residents to access employment, support new business starts and enhance business growth in the borough; this can often entail delivering grant funded and/ or commercially driven contracts.

An opportunity has now arisen for a focused, results driven individual to join the Service as an Employment and Enterprise Operations Supervisor.

The role will be on an exact (50/50) job share and is based within the Employment and Enterprise Services Team and will support the Team Manager to successfully deliver a range of performance driven projects including managing up to 14 sub- contractors across the North East region.

The post holder will be required to performance manage and drive the delivery of key contracts which are targeted to achieve a range of outcomes, including:

Department for Work & Pensions Work (DWP)Programme, New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) Phase 1, payment by results contract delivered by the Council as the 'Prime'( contract holder) part of a commercial contract. Managing performance and quality of up to 14 sub- contractors, enterprise agencies, and ensuring they meet contractual requirements.

The opportunity is offered on a fixed term basis to 31 March 2017 (with possible extension to 31st March 19 subject to winning tender for NEA Phase 2 as part of a national competition held by DWP).

The role will involve applying initiative, having a solution focused approach and a commitment to ensuring contractual targets and obligations are met. Performance is monitored daily and change is a constant feature of delivery.

Knowledge of local and national enterprise, the Merlin Standard, business and start up support will be required in this post as will interventions and activities to help unemployed people start up a business.

The post holder will have an NVQ level 4 in Information Advice & Guidance. Experience of supervising staff; working to targets and outcomes in an enterprise contract; developing, implementing and performance managing operations across a range of service providers; partnership working and working collaboratively.

Flexibility and effective communication skills will be needed on a daily basis in order to motivate and drive staff and deal with a range of stakeholders including Job Centre Plus, DWP, and 14 supply chain partners.

Please note interviews will take place 02 February 2017.
