Childrens & Joint Commissioning Services have a full time vacancy and a 12 month maternity cover post within the Children with Disabilities Team. The team provides a comprehensive social work service from the point of single assessment through to work on a long term basis. The team support children in need, including those in need of protection by assessing need, creating packages of support and managing risk. Additionally the team provide an effective and co-ordinated care management service provision to children and their carers.

Hartlepool Borough Council is committed to providing a high quality service to the people of Hartlepool. Devoting resources, energy, and imagination, we promote the independence and wellbeing of children and young people with learning disabilities through effective partnership working. We are looking for a like-minded individual to join our children with disabilities social work team.

You will have a Diploma/ Degree in Social Work and experience in child and/or adult assessment, care planning and intervention as well as a knowledge of the care management legislation, principles and processes.

You will need to proactively work in partnership with health and education colleagues and across agencies generally.

In Hartlepool we offer an excellent working environment. You will receive regular supervision, appraisal and training. You will be well supported in your career and have opportunities for professional development. You will be joining a hard working team that is child focussed, relational and meets need in a creative way ensuring that the person is central to the assessment and planning process.

Children Services in Hartlepool prioritises the wellbeing of staff through manageable caseloads, a highly supportive and visible management team, an excellent staff wellbeing at work offer and a very positive culture of support and development.

Our most recent Ofsted ILAC inspection in 2018 judged us as being ‘good’ regarding the effectiveness of our safeguarding services and outcomes for children and young people and outstanding for services to Looked After Children.

In February 2020 Ofsted returned to Hartlepool to conduct a focused visit in relation to the local authority’s arrangements for children in need, and children subject to a child protection plan. During this visit, Ofsted found: ‘Children are seen regularly by social workers who know them very well … Social workers use skill and consideration in eliciting children’s views and wishes and do this effectively, using a range of direct work tools. This allows assessments to consider children’s worries, and, when appropriate, this shapes their plans. Inspectors saw excellent examples of highly effective direct work, particularly in the disabled children’s team.
