The Financial Safeguarding Team delivers the statutory and non-statutory requirements of Sunderland City Council.

A Benefits Support Officer with basic knowledge and awareness of welfare benefits is required to support the work of the Financial Safeguarding Team.

This will include monitoring capital limits for all customers to ensure that customer finances are managed effectively, providing a “triage” service for benefits related requests, queries or issues and appropriately allocating to relevant teams.

Supporting and monitoring initial claims for Universal Credit and liaising with the Department for Work and Pensions.

To also provide factual and financial information to colleagues in the Social Care Financial Assessment Team, analyse and collate management information for various data sets.

The post is based in a busy, fast paced environment and involves high volumes of work.

Due to the responsibilities of the post, the ability to travel is required.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
