An exciting opportunity for Assistant Rangers to assist in the management of County Durham’s Parks and Countryside Estate is now available within the Parks and Countryside Team.

This role is based in Wharton Park which a 19th Century Park located on the edge of Durham City and now World Heritage site. Following a successful £3 million restoration project completed in 2016, Wharton Park now attracts over 130,000 visitors per year offering a busy and varied activities and events programme. Your role will give you time to talk and engage with our visitors allowing you to share, promote and expand the work we do and their understanding of it.

Being based at Wharton Park no two days are ever the same. The role can take you from maintaining our green spaces, security, and general maintenance of the Heritage Centre to delivering engaging experiences for our visitors or out on the wider estate assisting other members of the Countryside Service carrying out practical tasks and working with volunteers when required. Through your work you’ll promote the value of the natural world encouraging all to play their part in enjoying and protecting our green spaces and varying habitats.

Required Qualifications:
NVQ level 3 in countryside management or directly related subject

Due to the requirement to drive a County Council vehicle in this role, appointment will be subject to the production of a valid driving licence for the required category of vehicle and the satisfactory completion of an in-house Driver Induction Assessment.
