Further Information
We are looking for confident and experienced conservation professionals to help us meet some ambitious targets for tree establishment in the North Pennines AONB and the Yorkshire Dales National Park until the end of March 2025.

Heart of the Pennines Forest is a three-year project, a collaboration between the North Pennines AONB Partnership, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, which will establish the kinds of tree cover which are a good fit for our landscape and work alongside High Nature Value farming systems (small scale woodland planting and low-density wood pasture with scrub and scattered canopy trees). Also included in the project are a deer monitoring and control strategy and a small native upland tree nursery.

Three new woodland and tree officers, working in County Durham (North Pennines AONB) and Cumbria (North Pennines AONB and Yorkshire Dales National Park), will advise land managers on appropriate woodland creation, tree planting and natural regeneration schemes. You will help land managers with scheme design, sources of funding and contractors to meet our targets for tree and scrub establishment, and you will advise on the care or restructuring of existing plantations and woodlands.

You will work collaboratively with government agencies, partner organisations, land managers and volunteers to safeguard and increase our woodland and tree natural capital for all the natural services it provides: nature recovery, carbon storage, pollution remediation, engagement with nature and natural flood management.

Your work will be focussed on one of two areas: County Durham (North Pennines AONB) or Cumbria (North Pennines AONB and Yorkshire Dales National Park), although some flexibility will be required.

We would like to encourage applications from as wide an audience as possible and so we may also be able to accommodate working hours outside of those stated above. Please state your preferred location and your preferred hours on your application form.

Applicants should be educated to Higher Diploma level (Level 5) in conservation, ecology, environmental management, forestry or a related subject together with having an excellent track record in project management of nature conservation/recovery schemes.

A part time officer employed to cover the Yorkshire Dales Cumbria patch is likely to be employed by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. All other officers would be employed by Durham County Council (host authority of the North Pennines AONB Partnership).

Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority salary is £26,974 - £32,797 pro rata (18.5 hours per week)

Interviews are scheduled to be held on Tuesday 7 & Wednesday 8 June 2022.

We are also running an optional on-line Q&A session for anyone who would like to meet the AONB staff team who will be working with the successful candidate, before deciding whether or not to make an application. This will be held at 5:30pm on Monday 16th May on Zoom. If you would like to be sent the link, please email carly@northpenninesaonb.org.uk

For more information about the post and the project please contact Sarah Tooze sarah@northpenninesaonb.org.uk to chat via email or to arrange a call.
