The Role:

A vacancy has arisen for a full time Business Rates Officer.

Reporting to the Principal Business Rate Officer, you will be part of a team delivering key front-line services to businesses in County Durham

You will be responsible for maintaining Business Rates liabilities, exemptions and reliefs in accordance with legislation, case law, and the working practices and procedures of the council to the required standards of accuracy, achieving agreed clearance times as laid out in the Service plan. This will include property inspections and external visits as required.

You will undertake targeted reviews of Business Rates exemptions and reliefs to ensure ongoing accurate awards and assist in the monitoring of new developments and demolitions to enable accurate forecast of revenue.

Required Qualifications and Checks:

Candidates should have NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or Level 2/3 and relevant experience in assessing income related benefits or processing Council Tax or Business Rates

The successful applicant will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Basic Disclosure check.

Employment Location:

The post is based in Council Offices, Green Lane, Spennymoor however Durham has recently adopted hybrid working where part of your working week will be spent in the Office and part working from home. The necessary ICT equipment will be supplied.
