Further Information
“Moving to a green, healthy, dynamic and thriving North East” is our region’s vision for transport. For passengers and freight, Transport North East (TNE) oversees strategic transport planning at a regional level on behalf of the North East Joint Transport Committee, representing the seven local authorities (LA7) in our region.

The North East road network forms the arteries of the region’s economy. They are a critical asset on which public transport, freight, business, visitors and commuters rely.

The Head of North East Highways Collaboration is a new role at TNE following the draft Devolution deal for the North East region to begin joint working with the LA7 partners.
Preliminary work will include the identification of a Key Route Network, the creation of an Asset Management Plan, and beyond this the potential to consider how the management of regional highways functions could potentially evolve under a Mayoral Combined Authority.

We are looking to recruit a strategic leader to build strong and inclusive partnerships. As the job title suggests, you will be able to work in a highly collaborative fashion ensuring that our LA7 partners are listened to and ensure that their expertise is incorporated into the joint solutions that will be developed. Partnership will extend beyond the LA7, to capture strategic interaction with bodies including National Highways and the Department for Transport.

The successful candidate will directly report to the Transport Strategy Director and participate in the work of other work-streams, to ensure that the activities and outputs from TNE’s Highways Partnership team are integrated as part of the Regional Transport Plan – which outlines the need for investment in transport across the North East and identifies the priority areas for improved connectivity – and to ensure that solutions are complementary to each other.

We’re looking for an individual who stimulates innovation, enriches debate and discussion and advocates a fact-based approach to developing long-term strategies to achieve the best outcomes for TNE and our region.

Critically, you will be a senior manager at Transport North East, with the right leadership qualities to drive our organisation forward and secure excellent results. Why not join us on the Transport North East journey?
