Metro
The Tyne and Wear Metro is the UK’s busiest light rail system outside of London. From its opening in 1980, the system has carried over 1.5billion passengers.
Nexus is working with Stadler to build new 42 Metro trains, as part of a £362m investment which will transform the passenger experience, deliver huge energy savings and secure hundreds of jobs.

Bus services
Bus services in Tyne and Wear are provided by private companies, and Nexus monitors their performance. Nexus also secures around 10% of routes by subsidy on behalf of the North East Combined Authority (NECA), and manage bus stations and interchanges across Tyne and Wear.
Shields Ferry
Nexus runs the passenger ferry on the Tyne, running a passenger service and private hires.
