Active Hartlepool are looking to employ 6 Community Activator Coach Apprentices to work across the Active Hartlepool service.
 
Active Hartlepool currently operate Mill House Leisure Centre, Headland Sports Centre, Brierton Sports Centre and Summerhill Country Park. With our new active wellbeing hub, Highlight, set to open in early 2026, it is a really exciting time to be joining the Active Hartlepool team!
 
What is the job?
 
The Community Activator Coach Apprentice role is part of a dynamic team that have a passion for health, fitness, and wellbeing. You'll be an advocate for physical activity, proactively encouraging and supporting customers to live a healthy, active lifestyle.
 
You'll be responsible for supporting the full remit of the venue and encouraging children and young people to be more active. Overall, you will provide a high-quality service to customers that is safe, efficient, and enjoyable. No two days will be the same!

The location for this post is initially split between Active Hartlepool facilities, with a view to moving into Highlight Active Wellbeing Hub upon opening in Spring 2026.

What do I need?
 
To be a success in the role we require the following from you;
A passion for putting customers first
Capable of communicating clearly and concisely on all levels and to all ages
An appetite to train and develop to be a multi skilled member of staff
Able to respond positively to difficult situations.
Flexible in their approach to work
To be a team player who is not afraid to try something new
Enthusiastic and able to promote the Active Hartlepool service
Able to gain a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and Level 2 Gym Instructors Qualification within 3 months of starting the apprenticeship 
To be considered for this role, you must be a strong and confident swimmer. If you are invited to interview for this role you will be required to complete a swim test as part of the interview process. In order to be considered for the role you must be able to demonstrate you are able to do the following.
Jump/dive into deep water
Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water and then tread water for 30 seconds
Surface dive to floor of pool (deepest part)
Climb out of a swimming pool unaided by ladders/steps and where pool design permits
