Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Board

Sunderland Safeguarding Adults Board (SSAB) is seeking to appoint to the role of Independent Chair.

The SSAB Independent Chair will provide strong strategic leadership in delivering the adult’s safeguarding agenda and ensure that the SSAB operates strategically to deliver its key objectives and functions as set out in the Care Act (2014).

The candidate will possess the ability to lead, influence and motivate others. A robust knowledge and understanding of the adult’s safeguarding agenda and a clear commitment to work collaboratively with partners to improve outcomes for adults at risk of abuse and/or neglect is essential.

To apply for this post, the applicant will:
• Be educated to degree-level or above in social care or other relevant field
• Have significant experience at operational and strategic level in a relevant field, such as social care, health or criminal justice
• Have a proven track record of effective leadership at executive level
• Have the ability to chair complex multi-agency discussions that result in assurances and changes in policy and practice to improve safeguarding outcomes
• Have the experience of developing and maintaining strong strategic and business relationships to ensure effective governance of and between partnerships
• Have an understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults at risk of abuse and/or neglect

The SSAB Independent Chair is accountable to the Chief Executive of Sunderland City Council. Salary will be £550 per day, including travel expenses, pro rata. It is anticipated that this role will require the post holder to undertake on average 1 – 2 days per month. The specific commitment required can be agreed as part of the appointment process and is open to negotiation.

The appointment will be for 2 years, subject to review at 6 months and annual appraisals.
