Independent Safeguarding Board – Transitional Chair Person

Durham’s Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) are committed to creating the safest possible environment for our children and young people so that they can flourish and achieve their potential.

In our most recent Ofsted Inspection, the LSCB achieved a rating of ‘Good’. As we enter a period of change for safeguarding, the LSCB partners want to build on this rating through the recruitment of an Independent Chair that will bring transformational and independent thinking to drive forward the move into new multi-agency safeguarding arrangements.

Durham LSCB are seeking applications from individuals with the passion, vision and commitment to safeguarding some of the most vulnerable members of society. Applicants should have a relevant academic/professional qualification in one of the core disciplines represented on the LSCB.

This role requires an outstanding individual with proven experience of chairing complex meetings at a senior level, particularly in partnership settings, and who has a good operational and strategic understanding of the safeguarding agenda. The successful candidate will need to evidence they can:

• Consistently provide transformational leadership and strategic vision;
• Demonstrate excellent negotiation and influencing skills;
• Demonstrate experience in building and maintaining productive partnerships;
• Analyse complex information and provide robust scrutiny and challenge.
• Have the ability to ensure all partner agencies in Durham collaborate effectively to safeguard children, promote their welfare and improve outcomes

The Chair is directly accountable to the Chief Executive of Durham County Council, working with key strategic partners.

The appointment is for one year with an option to extend.

The role is estimated to be for a minimum of 30 days at £500 per day.

The post will be based at County Hall, Durham.
