Further Information
We are looking for an organised and experienced project manager with a background in management of the historic environment and in community engagement, to lead the development stage of our new lead mining heritage project – Land of Lead and Silver. Subject to successfully securing funding from NLHF for the delivery stage of the project your contract would be extended for a further four years.

Land of Lead and Silver is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England. The project focuses on lead mining heritage of the North Pennines, and on the skills required to record, conserve, maintain and interpret this heritage for future generations. It starts with the stories associated with this heritage and aims to tell these stories in ways which connect with new audiences, building support for this heritage and recruiting volunteers for the future.

The project includes a capital programme of works for heritage at risk, work to engage new audiences, training for volunteers & capacity building for the voluntary sector, all of which will build a developing sense of place in the central North Pennines as the Land of Lead & Silver, & help support a vital visitor economy.

This is a proposed four-year project with a 16-month development stage. The funding for the four-year project is contingent on a successfully completed development stage. We have an excellent track record in securing delivery funding following development stages like this.

You will lead the design of the NLHF delivery stage application and undertake preparatory activities, including by securing and managing suitably qualified professional contractors, which increase understanding of our heritage, build volunteer capacity to manage, interpret and conserve it, and contribute to project design.

You will submit the second stage application to National Lottery Heritage Fund and secure all partnership support, including match funding, for the successful completion of this development stage, and for the application for the 4-year Delivery Stage.

You will manage the work of an Interpretation & Engagement Officer on the same project, whose role will be to develop volunteer engagement, a volunteer training programme and to support the production of the Interpretation and Engagement Framework for the project.

The post a 16-month temporary contract in the development stage but will be extended for a further four years into the delivery stage subject to funding being secured.

We are also running an optional on-line Q&A session for anyone who would like to meet some of the AONB staff team who will be working with the successful candidate, before deciding whether or not to make an application. This will be held at 5:30pm on Tuesday 14th June on Zoom. If you would like to be sent the link, please email carly@northpenninesaonb.org.uk
