South Tyneside Council is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and passionate professional to take on the newly established role of Area Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (Area SENDCO).
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of South Tyneside's Local SEND Reform Plan and support the development of high-quality inclusive practice across schools and educational settings throughout the Borough.
As Area SENDCO, you will play a key role in supporting schools and settings to identify and meet the needs of children and young people with SEND at the earliest opportunity. You will provide specialist advice, guidance, training and practical support to SENDCOs, school leaders and practitioners, helping to strengthen confidence, consistency and inclusion across all education phases.
You will lead and facilitate SENDCO Networks, moderation activity, SEND Cluster development and workforce development opportunities, whilst supporting schools to embed the SEND in Mainstream Settings Framework and apply the graduated response effectively. You will work closely with educational settings, families and partner agencies to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND and promote the sharing of effective practice across the local area.
We are looking for a qualified and experienced SEND professional with significant experience of working with children and young people with SEND. You should have experience of leading or coordinating SEND provision, delivering training and professional development, and supporting inclusive practice within mainstream educational settings. A strong understanding of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and effective provision for children and young people with SEND is essential.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to influence SEND practice across the Borough, strengthen mainstream inclusion and support schools to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND
