Applicants will enjoy working outdoors, being active and dealing with people. You will work within a team or independently, to provide exceptional services to our residents and visitors, by completing grounds maintenance and street cleansing tasks across the city.
The job can be physically demanding, as you carry out a range of duties, including seasonal work tasks, outdoors, and in all weather conditions. You will complete routine or structured operational work and use basic tools or equipment under general supervision. Full PPE and training will be provided.

Applicants should have good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions, policies, procedures and legislation to carry out duties compliantly. You may be required to work across the city, starting from our main three depots in Hendon, Houghton le Spring or Washington or from satellite sites.

This is a permanent part-time position working two days per week (14.8 hours), with the option to work additional overtime across weekends and back shift and potentially increase to 37 hours in time.

Applicants should be prepared to work any day of the week (Monday – Sunday) and have the flexibility to respond if called upon at short notice. You may also be required to work Bank/Public holidays, as well as between Christmas and New Year when required by the service and appropriate to the post.
