Darlington Borough Council is looking to recruit a Handyperson / Cleaner to support the day-to-day operation of a busy school environment.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role within a school environment, helping to ensure that the buildings and grounds remain safe, secure, clean and well maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.
Your work will directly contribute to creating a positive and welcoming place to learn and work.
This varied role combines cleaning responsibilities with minor maintenance repairs and handyperson duties. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the school, including classrooms, offices, corridors, toilets, washrooms and external areas, helping to provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
You will also undertake a range of minor maintenance repairs and handyperson duties, including basic repairs to school buildings, fixtures and equipment, room set-ups, moving furniture and deliveries, grounds maintenance, and ensuring the site remains safe, secure, and well maintained. The role includes carrying out routine inspections and testing, such as alarms, lighting, fire safety equipment, and legionella monitoring, while supporting the security of the school premises.
We are looking for someone with a practical approach, and a commitment to delivering high standards of service. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, use their own initiative, and undertake the physical requirements of the role, including manual handling activities.
