North Tyneside Council is seeking to recruit Public Health School Nurses (SCPHN) to work with in the 0-19 Children’s Public Health Service. The service is based in four localities based in integrated teams across the borough.

The 0-19 Children’s Public Health Service has been integrated into the Council since April 2017 and a CQC inspection in March 2018 recognised areas of outstanding practice and highlighted that;

“The service prioritised vulnerable children and families appropriately. Managers and staff were acknowledged as having high levels of integrity, driving continuous improvement and held themselves accountable for delivering change.”

The Public Health School Nurse as part of the skill mix team will assess need and deliver the healthy child programme within the context of integrated prevention and early help locality teams. They will ensure universal contact is offered to children requiring access to the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) and vision screening They will provide universal access to the service for children and young people. Additional support and targeted interventions will be offered to those families where additional need is identified. Coordinate 5-19 services for electively home educated children and hard to reach groups.

The essential requirements of the post are:

• 1st level NMC registration

• Part 3 NMC Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse)

• the ability to meet the travel requirements of the post

Proposed salary: North Tyneside Council Grade 9, £31,371 -£34,788 plus market supplement (£2,227 after one year at the top of Grade 9).

Also, additional annual leave market supplement payable, depending on NHS continuous service.

Access to the NHS pension scheme is available.
