The council requires an enthusiastic individual who has demonstrable knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following; development of transportation policies, transport related projects, supporting development management, promotion of Intelligent Transport Technologies and preparation of funding bids.

The post holder will assist in the planning, development and delivery of the council’s ambitious infrastructure projects. You will have a key role in planning for the longer-term needs in the city. Working with colleagues including consultants you will examine and help formulate recommendations for major infrastructure investment. Working with the team and partners you will develop proposals for conventional and innovative projects, preparing briefs and bids for funding from central government and other organisations, covering fields such as new highway and public transport improvements, active travel and new technology interventions.

The post holder will also be required to support in the development management process. You will have a key role in developing relationships within the council in diverse areas such as economic development, planning and with external organisations such as Nissan UK, Nexus, Highways England and The North East Combined Authority. A demonstrable knowledge of major transport project development, in areas such as highway design, transport modelling and the production of business cases is essential to the post.
