NEAT Academy Trust - Learning and development

We are proud to offer a SCITT programme to trainee teachers, and to also have Newcastle Research School as part of our trust; offering evidence-based training to staff.

The development of our workforce is crucial to the success of our young people and joining NEAT Academy Trust will give you access to a wide range of CPD opportunities as you develop your career with us. Having a research school as an integral part of our trust also provides opportunities to work with other schools to use evidence-based programmes and practices and generate original research.

Newcastle Research School translates the most up-to date research in order to make it accessible, practical and applicable to the classroom. The Research School provides evidence-based training and professional development for senior leaders, teachers and teaching assistants on how to improve classroom practice, whilst supporting the implementation of practice by collaborating with schools and other partners. They aim to help improve the quality of teaching by getting more teachers to use academic research in ways that make a difference in the classroom.

NEAT Initial Teacher Training is working in partnership with Teach First to provide School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) where you will gain Qualified Teacher Status and a PGCE. The programme is for future teachers who are looking for full-time, 'hands-on' training in at least two schools that are close to home.

You would benefit from the support of a trained mentor, and our SCITT course is ideal for people who are eager to learn on the job and make a difference in their community from day one. As a trainee, you'll spend a majority of the week interacting with pupils and working as a member of teaching staff in a school local to you.
