Sunderland City Council has an exciting opportunity for 1 enthusiastic individual to join the Highways Operations Team as an Apprentice Pavior.

As an Apprentice Paviour, you will undertake the Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship and will be required to attend Derwentside College to undertake the apprenticeship learning. You will be supported through the apprenticeship by a college assessor, and you will also receive regular mentoring in the workplace from your supervisor and team.

Upon completion you will be able to carry out all types of paving, kerbing and related highway works including concrete finishing, tarmacing, street furniture, etc. ensuring compliance with specification, quality standards, and in accordance with all current relevant codes of practice and legislation.

You do not need to have prior experience to apply for this apprenticeship, but we are interested in receiving applications from candidates who wish to pursue a career as a Paviour
Ideally candidates will have or expect to achieve 3 GCSE’s at Grade 4 / Grade C including Maths and English or hold an equivalent and relevant qualification. If you do not have the required grades in Maths and English, you will be assessed by the training provider to determine if you have the required skills to complete this alongside the apprenticeship. Candidates without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to the completion of the apprenticeship.

Must be able/ prepared to work in all weathers.
Must be able/ prepared to meet the travel requirements of the post.
